Cinco de Mayo Celebration for Children

Cinco de Mayo is a Mexican holiday that commemorates the Mexican army’s victory over the French forces at the Battle of Puebla in 1862. While it is primarily celebrated in Mexico and the United States, children around the world can also take part in the festivities. Here are some ways kids can celebrate Cinco de Mayo

Learn about the history: Children can read books, watch videos or documentaries, or listen to stories about the history of Cinco de Mayo and why it is celebrated.
Create Mexican crafts: Kids can create traditional Mexican crafts such as piñatas, papel picado, or maracas. They can also color in Mexican flags or draw traditional Mexican symbols.
Make Mexican food: Children can make and enjoy traditional Mexican foods such as guacamole, tacos, or quesadillas. They can also try making Mexican desserts like churros or flan.
Dance to Mexican music: Children can dance to traditional Mexican music such as salsa, cumbia, or mariachi. They can also learn some traditional Mexican dance steps.
Dress up in traditional Mexican clothing: Kids can dress up in traditional Mexican clothing such as sombreros, ponchos, or dresses with colorful embroidery.
Have a piñata party: Children can have a piñata party with friends and family. They can fill the piñata with candy or small toys and take turns hitting it with a stick until it breaks open.
Learn some Spanish words and phrases: Children can learn some basic Spanish words and phrases such as “hola,” “adios,” “gracias,” or “por favor.”
