Frequently Asked Questions

What is Destination Sitters?

Destination Sitters is the premier childcare referral service in California and Nevada. The state has no required standards for temporary childcare, so Destination Sitters has, on its own, created the toughest standards in the industry.

Our babysitters are highly experienced, carefully screened, fully background- and health-checked (TB negative & drug tested negative) and are certified in both CPR and First Aid. All of the babysitters we refer to hotel properties and other destinations are referrals and are easily recognizable in their uniforms, arriving with age-appropriate toys, games and activities! We carry liability insurance and serve over 600+ of the finest hotels, convention centers, wedding and event planners and others, all over California.

How does Destination Sitters work?

Parents can contact us on-line or by calling TOLL FREE 1.888.SIT.KIDZ (1.888.748.5439) to BOOK A BABYSITTER. We match our babysitters with the children’s needs, including children with special needs. Bookings must be for a minimum of 4 hours. After making a booking, parents can receive specific information about their sitter. Sitters will arrive 15 minutes early to make sure you can be on time with your plans and to go over your specific instructions and our permission forms. Babysitters wear a Destination Sitters’ polo shirt, have a picture ID and bring age-appropriate toys, games, books and activities. Unlike most other services, we do not charge a late booking fee. Reservations are held with a credit card and there may be cancellation fees if booked sits are cancelled within twenty-four hours of the sit time or otherwise.

What are the babysitters’ qualifications?

Our babysitters must be at least 18 years old, though most are older, and must be experienced with children. Babysitters are personally interviewed by Destination Sitters; undergo a full background, health, drug and criminal check (see below for more information on our background check); and have their references verified. Most of our childcare providers are studying to be nurses or are pre-med, or are college or graduate students in a variety of fields (international business, economics, teaching, etc.). We have professional nannies, lifeguards, Emergency Medical Technicians and school teachers. Quite a few have taken child development classes and all simply love children. Many of our babysitters are bilingual, with over half a dozen languages represented. We also have older sitters as well as teachers who specialize in children with special needs. Our babysitters’ experience, references and talents speak for themselves.

Why should I use a service?

Because the state has no required standards for temporary childcare, unless you spend the hours we do screening and vetting babysitter candidates, even if you knew where to look, you can’t be sure what kind of sitter you will be getting. By using Destination Sitters, you know that you are being referred to a high quality sitter for your children. Not only do our babysitters arrive in a Destination Sitters’ polo shirt with a photo ID, but they bring clean toys, games, activities and books to every sit.

Why should I choose Destination Sitters, LLC?

No other referral service refers such high-quality childcare providers or has such extensive requirements. To be on our referral list, the babysitters must go through an extensive process and, unlike other agencies, no babysitter is referred until that process has been successfully completed. Babysitters arrive at least 15 minutes early to go over your instructions and so you can be on-time; they wear Destination Sitters’ polo shirt and picture IDs, and arrive at every sit with age-appropriate, clean toys, games, activities and books.

We only refer babysitters whom we would use ourselves. We wouldn’t use the “B” team, and you shouldn’t have to either. Our prices are competitive—we are sometimes a dollar or two more an hour and sometimes a dollar or two less—most often we are less AND no service matches our quality. As parents, our main priority for our children is their safety and their development. As parents, we share your priority and refer only the highest quality babysitters to ensure that your children are well-cared for and so that you can have peace of mind.

What is actually covered by the background check?

Background checks are one important part of Destination Sitters, LLC’s screening process.
