Children do not know what to expect and\u00a0that can often be scary for most. As a parent, there are some\u00a0things you can do to help your children feel confident and\u00a0ready for school. \u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Before School Begins:<\/h4>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\r\n<li>You and your child should meet the teacher<\/li>\r\n<li>Tour the school<\/li>\r\n<li>Connect with friends who are going to the same\u00a0school<\/li>\r\n<li>Get school supplies ahead of time and talk about\u00a0what your child will do with them<\/li>\r\n<li>Start changing sleep patterns before school starts so\u00a0getting up and ready won&#8217;t be so hard!<\/li>\r\n<li>Try out your school routine a few times before\u00a0school starts, including breakfast and a ride to school or a\u00a0walk to the school bus stop \u00a0<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">After <strong>school starts:<\/strong><\/h4>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\r\n<li>Even after school has started, you might consider a\u00a0visit during the day to let your child &#8220;show off&#8221; his new\u00a0environment. If possible, and if your child wants to, stay for\u00a0lunch so that he can also &#8220;show off&#8221; his new friends.<\/li>\r\n<li>Take a\u00a0tour of the school and classroom to familiarize yourself with\u00a0the school.<\/li>\r\n<li>Get a schedule of the regular day so the two of you\u00a0can go over it at home.<\/li>\r\n<li>Establish a daily routine once school starts. Try to\u00a0enlist your child&#8217;s help with snacks\/lunch and with\u00a0transportation to and from school (do they want to walk with\u00a0their friends, bike, etc.?).<\/li>\r\n<li>Dress your children comfortably for school. Tennis\u00a0shoes are always a good idea because children run around on\u00a0the playground. Easy clothes to get on and off in the bathroom\u00a0are also a good idea. If your child is comfortably dressed, she\u00a0will feel more comfortable in school without you there. \u00a0<\/li>\r\n<li>And always remember: if you are anxious about your child going to school, they\u00a0will be anxious.
